Basswood, Akoya Oxygen

Basswood is a sub-community in the form of a residential cluster in DAMAC Hills 2 (Akoya Oxygen). The 3-bedroom townhouses in this sub-district are constructed using modern architecture such as floor-to-ceiling windows in every room. There are two different layouts available for these properties, which are named Aknan Villas and Selfie Villas.

The parent community, DAMAC Hills 2 (Akoya Oxygen) is an eco-friendly themed suburb within Dubai. The main appeal of living here is its proximity to prominent business centres in the city, yet it offers peaceful, clean and green surroundings. The greater district is carefully planned using the latest technologies in civil engineering practices. Location-wise, it is situated between two major roads, Jebel Ali Lehbab Road (E77) to the south and Dubai Al Ain Road (E66) to the east.

The 3-bedroom townhouses in Basswood come in two different formats called Aknan Villas and Selfie Villas. The total built-up area of these townhomes is around 1,700 sq. ft. The double-storey houses have a spacious family area, a dining area and a modern kitchen on the ground floor in addition to a powder room. A staircase connects the main floor with the upper floor where ensuite bedrooms are located. Each bedroom has a built-in closet and a private balcony. The notable feature is the allocation of a large space around the house for gardening.

Basswood is mostly a residential area with villas and townhouses. Thus, parking spaces in Basswood are available as an attached garage or parking along the side streets.

Basswood is a well-connected area, with Dubai – Al Ain Road (E66) linking to the east and Emirates Road, (E611) linking from the north.

Public Transportation in Basswood comes in the form of nearby bus stops and metro stations.  The closest bus stop is the Dubai Virtual Reference Station and Rawdah Poultry Farm bus stop, both at a distance of 15-minutes. The closest metro station is First Abu Dhabi Bank Metro Station, which requires a 30-minute drive time to reach. One will either have to take an RTA bus or a taxi to reach these metro stations.

The community is located at a distance from the main city, so there aren’t many options for shopping and entertainment. Within a short drive of the parent community, there is an Akoya community centre that acts as the primary shopping destination for locals. Carrefour, a well-known chain of hypermarkets, has a branch there. The French supermarket is well known for carrying a variety of goods, such as food, clothing, electronics, and home care. Additional well-known supermarkets near DAMAC Hills 2 (Akoya Oxygen) are Spinneys, Zoom, Geant Express, and Choithrams.

DAMAC Hills 2 Mosque is a community mosque located at merely a 5-minute drive. Other mosques near Basswood include Remraam mosque which is a small community mosque in Remraam. There is also Town Square Mosque and Al Adel Mosque at a driving distance of about half an hour. Both these mosques are considered large and can accommodate several hundred worshippers within their individual capacity during Friday prayers.

The Winning Generation Gospel Assembly on Al Khail Road (E44) is one of the closest churches for local Christians. It is at least a half-hour drive away. The well-known Jebel Ali church complex is also within the same driving distance. There you will find some of the top churches in Dubai such as Dubai Mar Thoma Parish Church, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church.

For the Sikh community, a gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar, the city’s only gurudwara, is located in Jebel Ali Village. To serve the Hindu residents of the area, a recently opened Grand Hindu Temple has been built in Jebel Ali.

The master project, DAMAC Hills 2 (Akoya Oxygen), has plans for community schools and nurseries in the area. Shining Stars Nursery Dubai is currently open for preschoolers. For primary and secondary schools, consider the following schools near Amargo:

Ranches Primary School is known for its hands-on approach to teaching pupils by identifying individual strengths and weaknesses. Nearby universities include the University of Dubai which is at a distance of less than half an hour. This is a U.S. regionally accredited university and is also one of the best universities for business studies, as it holds accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). Other nearby universities include Manipal University which is India based institute of higher education and Al Ghurair University.

Clinics near Basswood include American Hospital Clinic which is 17-minutes away. This is a privately run clinic that is open until 10 pm. They provide various medical services such as general medical checkups and also offer dentist services as well.

Hospitals near Basswood include Mediclinic Parkview Hospital which will take about 25-minutes to reach. Another hospital is the Emirates Hospital Day Surgery & Medical Center in Motor City. Both hospitals are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and have trauma and a medical emergency centre.

There are two nearby pharmacies that are reachable in under 20-minutes. The closest one is Life Pharmacy in Mira Town Centre and the second one is Bab Al Lisaili Pharmacy. Both pharmacies stock various prescription medications and over-the-counter medicines.

To the north, there is the district of Dubai Motor City. This is an automotive-themed community with a racetrack situated within its borders. To the south, the land is undeveloped, and one will mostly find a barren desert. Most neighbouring areas are situated up north and there is nothing to the immediate west and east. To the northwest, there is a neighbourhood of Dubai Investment Parks. To the northeast, there is Dubai Academic city which is home to several popular universities and colleges.

Momento Cafeteria is known to serve various fast food such as burgers, hotdogs, fries and club sandwiches, it is located 19-minutes away. Carluccio’s – Arabian Ranches branch is located 19-minutes away. This restaurant is known for offering classic Italian cuisines such as pasta, pizza and various other items.

Beaches near Basswood include Al Sofouh beach which is considered a relatively less crowded beach compared to others and is ideal for those who want to enjoy their beach time peacefully with minimal disruption. Those looking to enjoy some watersports should visit Kite Beach which is known for having various water-related leisure activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, waterboarding and several others activities.

Trump International Golf Course is not only a golfing destination but also has a clubhouse, a pool and a fitness centre. Dubai International Stadium is where most major sporting events take place. Basswood and its parent community of Akoya Oxygen are still under development, this means that the community doesn’t have any regularly scheduled events. However, residents can partake in events taking place in the nearby community of Dubai Motor City. Residents can partake in events organized during Halloween, Christmas and community fun events during National Day.

Being part of Akoya Oxygen, Basswood residents can participate in community discussions and share ideas on Facebook. There is a group AKOYA Oxygen (Residential Community) for community updates.

It is important to consider that this neighbourhood is still under construction. Residents who move here will need a vehicle to avail basic amenities such as groceries and shopping in general. Nevertheless, once the community is fully developed, one will be able to access nearly all the amenities just a few blocks from their doorstep. Apart from this, they will enjoy one of the cleanest and greenest living environments in Dubai.
