Al Garhoud

Known more commonly as Garhoud, the area is a mixed-use community. It is close to Dubai International Airport and houses many apartments, villas, offices, shops and warehouses for rent. A popular residential and commercial community of old Dubai, Al Garhoud has a diverse mix of old and new villas. It is one of the popular areas in Old Dubai for renting apartments.

Due to its proximity to Dubai International Airport, Al Garhoud is home to several Emirates Airlines staff. This is an ideal place to live in for those who work in old Dubai and don’t have a vehicle of their own. The community is well served by public transportation and can be a great place for singles to live in and grow as a professional.

Al Garhoud is one of the most well-known communities in Dubai. Being part of old Dubai, one will find that this is a well-established area with several commercial and residential sub-communities. Residents will find a great selection of apartments and villas. Those looking for commercial spaces will find a wide variety of offices and shops. All in all, living in Al Garhoud is ideal for those who work here and want to live in a peaceful residential area without having to travel too far.

Those residing in villas don’t have to worry about parking spots. Most villas come with their own covered parking and there are spots on the side-streets. For those residing in apartment buildings, the story can be quite different. They may or may not be provided with dedicated parking spots.  It all depends on which building you are renting your flat in and will be mentioned in your tenancy contract.

For those depending on the metro to get around town, there are four metro stations that cover the Al Garhoud community. These are GGICO, Airport Terminal 1, Airport Terminal 3 and Emirates, all of which are on the Red Line. Also, there are several RTA bus stops that connect the community to these metro stations and other parts of Dubai.

There are approximately 20 supermarkets in Al Garhoud. A few of the large supermarkets include Choirams, Lifco Supermarket and Emirates Cooperative Society. Smaller supermarkets include Al Sour Supermarket, Madeena Supermarket, Al Madina Mart and more.

For those who would rather shop in a hypermarket, the closest Carrefour Hypermarket is just 9 minutes away in Deira City Centre.

Most churches are concentrated in the nearby community of Oud Mehta and it will take around 11 minutes to get there. You can expect to find Saint Mary’s Church, The Dubai City Church, Christian Fellowship Church, Holy Trinity Church as well as an Egyptian Coptic Church.

Hindu residents of Al Garhoud will also find temples closeby in Bur Dubai. You can find the Shiva Temple, Shree Krishna Haveli, ShrinathJi Temple in the Al Raffa district of Bur Dubai. The Sikh community can also visit this area as there is the Sikh Gurudwara located in Al Raffa. It takes roughly 18 minutes to reach this district.

Popular mosques in the area are Garhoud Mosque, Bin Hamdan Mosque and Al Rahman Mosque. All these mosques in Al Garhoud are large mosques that accommodate several hundred worshippers.

Parents will have plenty of schools to choose from when residing in Al Garhoud. For pre-schoolers, there’s Kindergarten Starters and other notable options. One of the most popular schools in Al Garhoud is Cambridge International School. It has been awarded a good rating from the KHDA, which conducts yearly reviews for private schools in Dubai. Cambridge International School offers the British curriculum from FS1 to Year 13.  From central Garhoud, you can reach this school in just 4 minutes. Besides being a top-class school, this school has strong values that dictate its curriculum. Indian curriculum schools in Garhoud consist of Indian High School, Gulf Indian High School and New Indian Model School. American options include Al Khaleej National School, Al Mawakeb School Garhoud and Dubai International School. Al Dar University College, The American College in Dubai and Al Falah University are located in Garhoud. Emirates Training College and Emirates Aviation Training College are also located in the community.

Being a well-established community, there are quite a few clinics and hospitals in Al Garhoud. The only clinic in the area is Prime Medical Centre. Niche medical facilities include Al Sham Dental Centre and the aesthetic centre, Signature Clinic. Hospitals in Garhoud include Mediclinic Welcare Hospital, Al Garhoud Private Hospital and Prime Hospital Garhoud. These are large hospitals that offer a variety of healthcare services. These hospitals also have a 24/7 emergency service along with several specialised outpatient services.

One of the most attractive features of this area is its location. On the east of the community, Al Garhoud is bordered by the Dubai International Airport. To its south, there is the community of Umm Ramool. To its west, you’ll find Dubai Creek and Garhoud Bridge. To its north, you’ll find the community of Port Saeed which is right next to Deira City Centre. Also, just southwest of the community, there is the Dubai Festival City which has some exciting venues and a place where community events take place.

When residing in Al Garhoud, you’ll have the privilege to experience a dynamic lifestyle. This is because there’s plenty to do and experience within and near the community without having to drive for a long distance.

Al Garhoud doesn’t have any malls but two of the most popular malls in Dubai are located just a few kilometres from this community. These are Dubai Festival City and City Centre Deira, both just 9 minutes away. Dubai Festival City Mall has over 500 branded stores to select from. This is the only mall in Dubai where you will find an IKEA furniture store and a Robinsons department store.

Another mall near Al Garhoud is City Centre Deira. Known to be one of the oldest malls in Dubai, the mall houses many retail, dining and entertainment options. There is a VOX Cinemas and a Magic Planet arcade. The Wafi Mall in Oud Metha is also a short distance away.

There are some of the finest restaurants in Al Garhoud to dine in. For instance, if you are looking for licensed options with live music and great food you should consider visiting the Century Village. It is located in Al Garhoud next to Emirates Training College. One of the most unique aspects of Century Village is the wide range of restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world. The iconic Irish Village is also located in Garhoud and is known to be one of the most popular Irish pubs in Dubai.

In addition to this, there are also several fine dining restaurants in Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre, including Mahek, Dubliners and Warehouse. There are also several hotels close to the Dubai International Airport in Garhoud, featuring popular restaurants.

You’ll also find a great selection of casual and fine dining eateries to choose from at the aforementioned mall, Dubai Festival City. Expect to find restaurants such as California Pizza Kitchen, Chili’s, Hard Rock Cafe and many others.

Al Garhoud is located south of Dubai’s shoreline. This means that the beach will be around 20 to 25 minutes away via car. A popular beach near Al Garhoud is Jumeirah Beach. It is less than 20 minutes away. This beach has a variety of amenities such as play areas for children, bench seats stretched across the shoreline, a boat jetty, shaded dining area, dedicated lifeguards and a few outdoor cafeterias that serve snacks and sandwiches.

The Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Stadium is located directly in Al Garhoud. The stadium is known for hosting tennis tournaments, as well as concerts and other events. The Aviation Club is also popular for its lakeside venue, Cellar and the Majlis. There are also a number of other historical landmarks worth visiting in close proximity to Al Garhoud.

For instance, Burj Nahar is just 16 minutes away. It is a historical landmark that is considered an ancient watchtower. Another landmark near Garhoud is the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood which is also home to the Dubai Museum. In addition to these, the Dubai Creek and Al Seef are also a short drive away from Garhoud.

Al Garhoud has a great selection of parks for recreation and staying fit. There is Al Garhoud Park 1,2 and 3. These are spread throughout the community and offer many children’s play areas and shaded zones. For kids, these parks have swings, slides and monkey bars. Overall, this is a great place to visit, for a breath of fresh air or for a picnic.

Those looking to stay fit can find that there are plenty of gyms in Garhoud. For instance, there is the Guru Gym which is located on 35th street. A Bodylines Leisure and Fitness Club is part of the Bustan Rotana near the Airport. There’s also a Fitness First which is 10 minutes away in Deira City Centre. There are quite a few gyms that are located 8 to 15 minutes away from the heart of this community.

Beauty salons in the community for ladies consist of NBAR Nail Salon and Spa, JAM Beauty Lounge and The Nail Spa. Gents can head to Top Style Salon and Adrian D Salon.

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is a two-week long event hosted at Dubai Tennis Stadium near Irish Village in Al Garhoud. It is one of the most awaited upcoming sports championships in Dubai.

Although Al Garhoud is a well-established community, there are some reasons you may not enjoy living here. For one, finding a viable parking spot could pose as a challenge. Another thing to keep in mind is the noise from the aircrafts – given that Dubai International Airport is located right next to it. If these factors don’t bother you, you should certainly consider moving here.
