Al Awir or Al Aweer is a community located on the outskirts of Dubai. It is known for its wholesale vegetable and fruit market. Situated next to Emirates Road (E611), Al Awir is close to Ras Al Khor, Al Khawaneej, Al Warqaa and Al Warsan. Though far away from the central areas of Dubai, the development is still in proximity to Academic City, Dubai International City and Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO). The area is slowly gaining attention with the development of residential apartments. It is one of the most affordable places to live in Dubai. The rental prices for its apartments, especially studios are quite low.
Al Awir, Dubai was the land of agriculture and camel breeding. But keeping pace with Dubai’s booming real estate market, this part of the emirate is also developing rapidly. While most of the area is under construction, many expats consider living in Aweer, Dubai since rents are relatively low.
Once a farming village, the area has evolved over time and now Al Awir is a developing part of Dubai with a lot of new projects. One can expect many furnished units equipped with modern amenities. Although it is located far away from the city’s centre one can still experience the essence of Dubai’s lifestyle in everything the community has to offer.
Properties in Al Aweer include large and affordable villas, mostly available for rent. These duplex villas range from 2, 3 and 4-bedroom types and feature amenities like large hallways, en-suite bedrooms with attached closets, open-air semi-furnished kitchens and a balcony. One can also find a few apartments but these are so reasonably priced that it’s rare to find a vacant unit. There might be some studios for rent in Al Awir with 400 sq. ft. of covered space, offered for AED 21k per annum.

It is best to use your own car to get around the town since finding parking spaces in Al Awir won’t be an issue. Though there aren’t dedicated parking spaces there’s plenty of space in the grounds close to the residential area and vegetable market. One may find trucks parked in the sandy lots in Al Aweer.
Finding transportation in Al Awir should be simple. The only bus that stops here is 11A and the closest stations are Awir Masjid and Awir Boys School. The closest metro station is in Al Rashidiya, it is 20 minutes away.
The only supermarket in Al Awir is Kadoori Supermarket. There is a ZOOM mini-mart part of the ENOC petrol pump towards the entrance of the community. One can also shop from local grocers and corner shops or access supermarkets in nearby areas. The closest options include Nazir Ahmed Supermarket and Lafi Supermarket in Al Khawaneej.
There are many community mosques in Al Awir such as Afghan Mosque, Mosa Khalifa Bilhabala Mosque and Thani Bin Juma Mosque. Al Awir is also home to Mosalla Al Eid which is a large prayer hall used during the Muslim festival of Eid.
However, churches and temples near Al Awir are roughly 30 minutes away in Oud Mehta and Bur Dubai. Churches in Oud Mehta include St Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Thomas Orthodox Cathedral and Coptic Church. Hindu temples in Bur Dubai include Shiva Temple, Shree Krishna Haveli and ShrinathJi Temple. The Sikh community can visit the Automech Gurudwara in Ras Al Khor Industrial area which is 22 minutes away from Al Aweer.
Parents can find religious education institutes such as Sheikh Hamdan Bin Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Centre. Schools in Al Awir consist of Al Waha School For Elementary & Secondary Education and Alidreesi Basic School.
Other schools near Al Awir can be found in Academic City such as German International School Dubai, Dubai English Speaking Private College and Lycee Francais International Georges Pompidou School. Many reputed universities are also part of Academic City. All of these education options and more can be reached in roughly 16 minutes.
There is one clinic in Al Awir which is Al Aweer Health Center and Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital is the only hospital in Al Awir.
Residents will have to travel to International City, 18 minutes away, to visit Access Clinic, Aster Clinic and Amber Clinics. The closest hospitals are 30 minutes away in Al Garhoud, here you will find Mediclinic Welcare Hospital, Al Garhoud Private Hospital and Prime Hospital. People can also get to some of the best government hospitals in Dubai.
Al Khawaneej is the closest neighbour of this community. Other areas that are under 20 minutes away include Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City and International City. The area is close to the Dubai – Sharjah Border with Emirates Road (E611) as a direct link.
Dragon Mart 1 and 2 in the International City are the closest malls to Al Aweer. Dragon Mart has over 4,000 stores offering various items from China, you can even find wholesale outlets here. Dragon Mart 1 and 2 also have a vast food court, multiple casual dining restaurants and a few cafes. There are many events held in the mall during public holidays and weekends. You can also visit the Novo Cinemas in Dragon Mart for a fun time out.
Many local eateries, cafes and restaurants in Al Awir are dotted along the streets. There’s a great chance for fulfilling your street food cravings. Popular restaurants in Al Awir include Hot Dog Garage, Owl Nest Cafe, Mena Wa Feena and Mataa Mzagk Restaurant. New Al Aweer Restaurant, Sports Star and Koukh Al Shay are a few cafeterias in Al Aweer.

Al Awir is away from the central region of Dubai. Most importantly, Downtown Dubai and other popular commercial hubs are on the western side while this community is on the east. Therefore, it can be tricky if you work in those areas. However, as it away from the rush of the city it provides a serene environment.
