As pearl trading is how this country had first grown economically, Qasr Al Hosn used to be the economic hub for the emirate and it is known to be the symbolic birthplace of Abu Dhabi. As the rise of oil exploration and decline in the pearl trading industry lead Qasr Al Hosn to be expanded further, it was once a village in its own right housing a population of 5000 people.
